Laser Hair Removal FAQ's

Is a patch test/consultation required?

It is 100% necessary to patch test before a laser hair removal treatment, even if you have had laser hair removal elsewhere. The procedure allows us to check that your skin is suitable for laser hair removal and will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. A general inspection of your skin will take place and then a small area will be exposed to the laser light. In addition to ensuring no adverse reactions occur, this also provides us with the opportunity to tailor the machine’s settings to your personal requirements.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Soprano ICE Platinum uses Alma Laser’s SHR method, which is the only clinically proven method of laser hair removal that is virtually painless. The unique heating and energy delivery method effectively damages the hair follicle while preventing injury and pain to the surrounding tissue. At the same time, integrated ICETM tech cools the skin surface, preventing superficial burns and the sensation of pain.

Who can be treated?

The Soprano Ice Platinum system is suitable for all skin tones and emits 3 different laser light wavelengths to target the widest possible range of hair colours. However, as lasers target the melanin pigment, pale ginger, white or grey hair will not be affected by the laser. We can only treat clients who are aged 18 and over.

Is it safe?

Absolutely. Soprano ICE’s SHR method has been proven in multiple clinical studies as the safest method of laser hair removal for all skin types. With SHR, hair follicles are damaged not by a single pulse of high energy which can injure the skin, but by repetitive short energy pulses. These pulses produce heat build-up which gradually raises the temperature of the dermis to the level needed for preventing hair growth, while minimizing the risk of burns.

How many treatments will I need?

6 to 8 treatments are recommended to achieve optimum results with some stronger hair growth areas such as the face and private area possibly needing more treatments. Facial laser hair treatments should be every 4 weeks for the first 4 treatments then every 4-6 weeks thereafter. Body laser hair removal treatments are performed every 6 weeks for the first 4 treatments then every 6-8 weeks after that.

Why do I need 6 – 8 treatments?

Hair growth occurs in four stages: Early Anagen (early hair growth), Anagen (active hair growth), Catagen (regression) and Telogen (resting, not growing). Laser hair removal only affects the Anagen stage, (actively growing hair). Therefore, approximately 25 percent of hair is removed with each treatment. After 6 to 8 treatments, the area should be free from hair. Additional top up sessions are recommended every 6 to 12 months to keep any dormant hairs at bay.

How should I prepare prior to a treatment?

Apart from shaving, avoid any other hair removal methods such as waxing, threading or hair removal creams for 4-6 weeks prior to treatment. Avoid sun exposure for 1 week and sunbeds or any kind of fake tan for 2 weeks. You should thoroughly shave areas to be treated or patch tested around 8 hours before your visit. Skin must be hair and stubble free for the laser to be operated safely.

Why Soprano ICE Platinum?
  • The Platinum edition combines 3 laser wavelengths into a single innovative handpiece.
  • Simultaneously targets different tissue depths as well as anatomical structures within the hair follicle.
  • It is suitable for ALL skin types.
  • Unlike other laser hair removal systems, Soprano ICE Platinum is FDA approved for skin types I-VI and tanned skin.
  • Rather than exposing the hair follicle to a single high energy pulse which can cause trauma to skin with a high melanin count, Soprano Ice gradually heats the skin until the required heat energy is delivered to the hair follicle. This makes it a safe laser hair removal option, including for dark skinned patients.
The Power of Three
  • Unlike other laser systems, simultaneously targets the 3 main structures of the hair follicle at 3 different depths within the skin, for the most effective hair removal.

Quick with No Downtime
  • Treatment sessions are quick, even for large areas. After you can return to your normal activities immediately.

Perfect for All Body Areas
  • Including sensitive or hard to reach areas such as the ears and intimate areas.

Laser Hair Removal Treatment Summary

Soprano ICE Platinum, featuring trio clustered diode technology. The Platinum edition combines 3 laser wavelengths into a single innovative handpiece, simultaneously targeting different tissue depths as well as anatomical structures within the hair follicle.
By combining the absorption and penetration levels of three different wavelengths, along with the treatment coverage, comfort and low maintenance of the diode laser, Soprano family achieves the safest and most comprehensive hair removal treatment available today.

ALEX 755NM WAVELENGTH

The Alexandrite wavelength offers more powerful
energy absorption by the melanin chromophore,
making it ideal for the widest range of hair types and color- especially light-colored and thin hair. With more superficial penetration, the 755nm wavelength targets the Bulge of the hair follicle and is especially effective for superficially embedded hair in areas such as the
eyebrows and upper lip.

YAG 1064NM WAVELENGTH

The YAG 1064 wavelength is characterized by lower melanin absorption, making it a focused solution for darker skin types.
At the same time, the 1064nm offers the deepest penetration of the hair follicle, allowing it to target the Bulb and Papilla, as well as treat deeply embedded hair in areas such as the scalp, arm pits and pubic areas. With higher water absorption generating a higher temperature, the incorporation of the 1064nm wavelength increases the thermal profile of the overall laser treatment for most effective hair removal.

SPEED 810NM WAVELENGTH

The classic wavelength in laser hair removal, the 810nm wavelength, offers deep penetration of the hair follicle with high average power, a high repetition rate and a large 2cm spot size for fast treatment. The 810nm has a moderate melanin absorption level making it safe for darker skin types. Its deep penetration capabilities target the Bulge and Bulb of the hair follicle while moderate tissue depth penetration makes it ideal for treating the arms, legs, cheeks and beard.

After your treatment

Immediately after the treatment, it is possible that there can be some mild redness or sensitivity. You can apply some iced water or a cooling aloe vera gel if any heat is felt in the treatment area.

Following the treatment, direct sun exposure should be avoided for 2 weeks to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation. For areas that are exposed to sunlight, an SPF of 30 to 50 should be applied between treatments.

Waxing, bleaching or plucking should be avoided between treatments, but the area may be shaved.

Hot baths and any heat treatments or vigorous exercise should be avoided for the 24 hour period following treatment. Deodorant should be avoided on the underarm area for 24 hours following underarm laser hair removal.
